As a devoted mother of three sons, loving wife of an immigrant butcher, and amazing cook who learned from her mother in their hometown of Seoul, Korea, it was not by chance that Mama Cho’s BBQ started. Serving the greater Bay Area for over 30 years, the Cho family opened their first meat market in San Francisco in 1982 and since then have been distributing Korean BBQ (KBBQ) to some of the best restaurants in Northern California.
With the growing popularity of traditional KBBQ and the rise of Korean fusion dishes made popular by chefs Roy Choi (Kogi BBQ) and David Chang (Momofuku), the Cho family made a commitment to take it one step further: Make KBBQ available to everyone.
Founded in 2010, Mama Cho’s BBQ started with the principle that good food brings joy and sharing a meal builds community. In the same way Mama Cho cooks homestyle KBBQ for her family and friends, you can experience the same marinated meats available in our full service meat counter or already cooked from our hot kitchen, located inside the Lake Chabot Public Market in Castro Valley, CA.
